The Regis College Board of Trustees manages the affairs of the Corporation. The authority of the Board of Trustees is affirmed through its general, academic and financial policy-making functions and its responsibility for the financial health and welfare of the Corporation. The Board of Trustees consists of between 16 and 32 members. Current members are:
Carole F. Barrett, JD
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1963), Carole Barrett holds a law degree from St. John’s University School of Law. Carole is the director of the Business Department at Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin, a professional corporation in San Francisco. Carole chairs the Trademark Counseling & Transactions Group. Her practice is focused on intellectual property protection, with an emphasis on trademarks, copyrights, licensing, and intellectual property transactions. Carole Barrett practices before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Ernest Bartell, c.s.c, PhD (Emeritus)
A Holy Cross priest, Fr. Ernest Bartell, CSC, holds a doctorate in economics from Princeton University, a master’s in theology from Holy Cross College in Washington, D.C., a master’s in economics from the University of Chicago, and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Notre Dame. He is a professor of economics at Notre Dame and a faculty fellow of the Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies and the Institute for Educational Initiatives. A former president of Stonehill College, he has been associate director of the Holy Cross Mission Center and Overseas Mission coordinator for the Priests of the Holy Cross. Fr. Bartell was director of Project 80 of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities and director of the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education. Previously at Notre Dame, he was executive director of the Kellogg Institute, director of the Center for the Study of Man in Contemporary Society, and chair of the Economics Department.
Helen Callahan, CSJ, MEd
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1961), Helen Callahan, CSJ, is the Catholic chaplain at Simmons College. She has a master of education degree in speech and hearing and a certificate of advanced graduate study in counseling psychology, both from Boston University. She served as campus minister at Aquinas College, pastoral associate at St. Helen’s Parish in Norwell, retreat team member for the St. Joseph Retreat Center, and general councilor for the Leadership Council of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Sister Helen worked at Catholic Charities and the Boston School for the Deaf. She is licensed in Massachusetts as a social worker, counseling psychologist, teacher of the deaf, and education administrator. Within the Archdiocese of Boston, she is a certified pastoral minister.
Margaret Comfrey, CSJ, MA
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1972), Sister Peggy is the Director of International Programs at the Irish Immigration Center in Boston. She has a Masters degree in Theological Studies from Weston School of Theology in Cambridge and a Bachelors of Arts in French degree from Regis College. She began her career as a French, Spanish and Religion instructor at Cathedral High School in Boston. She has also served as a member of the general administration for the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. She has been awarded the Woman of Excellence award from Mt. St. Joseph Academy Alumnae Association and served on other boards such as the Casserly House Advisory Board and the sponsored ministries of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Kathleen Dawley
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1979), Kathy is currently President and CEO of Maguire Associates in Bedford, MA. She is a member of the Board of International Advisors of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, a trustee of Pope John XXIII High School, and former Director of Admissions at Regis College and Director of Continuing Education at Fisher College. Kathy has led research and consulting projects for The College Board/ETS, Boston University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the University of Saint Thomas, Vassar College, University of the Pacific, Calvin College, Westmont College, Oberlin College, the University of Virginia, Northeastern University, Washington and Lee University, and Bellarmine University.
Mary Anne Doyle, CSJ, PhD
Sister Mary Anne grew up in Medford and attended Mount St. Joseph Academy and Regis College, graduating in 1967. She had entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston in 1960, initially serving as a teacher at St. Theresa School, West Roxbury, and at Mount St. Joseph Academy, where she taught mathematics. After receiving her doctorate in Physics from Ohio State University in 1976, she began teaching at Regis College and directed the research center there. She subsequently was elected by her community to its leadership council. Sister was also part of the team that planned and oversaw the Archdiocesan Synod, and she has served in the planning offices of the Archdiocese of Boston and of the archdiocesan Catholic School Office. She recently was awarded the certificate in accounting from Bentley College. She lives at Casserly House in Roslindale, where the Sisters of St. Joseph provide tutorial and community service to newly-immigrated area residents in a cheerful, neighborhood setting and currently works as Business Manager at St. Julia’s Parish, Weston. Sister also teaches college physics part-time.
Mary Jane England, MD
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1959), Mary Jane England is the ninth president of Regis College. She received a doctorate from the Boston University School of Medicine. A leader in national healthcare policy, Dr. England was president of Washington Business Group on Health (WBGH) in Washington D.C., a non-profit health policy research and education organization. She served as the program director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Mental Health Services Program for Youth; was the vice president of medical services, group department, for the Prudential Insurance Company; associate dean and director of the Lucius N. Littauer Master in Public Administration Program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government; and first commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services.
Clyde H. Evans, PhD
Clyde H. Evans holds a doctorate in physics and philosophy and master of science in physics from Michigan State University and a bachelor’s degree in physics/electrical engineering from the University of Detroit. He conducted post-doctoral training as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow in the office of U.S. Senator Bill Frist, as a scholar in academic administration and healthy policy at the Association of Academics Health Center, and as an Andrew Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellow in physics and philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh. Clyde Evans is the executive director of the Institute for Health Protection and president of CE Consulting and he was vice president at the Association of Academic Health Centers, director of the American Network of Health Promoting Universities, associate dean for clinical affairs and the director of the Office for Academic Careers at Harvard Medical School. The author of twenty articles on a wide variety of topics and author or co-author of four books, Clyde Evans is the recipient of the Science Alumnus of the Year Award from the University of Detroit, the Lila A. Wallis Distinguished Visiting Professor of Women’s Health Award from Cornell University Medical College, and the Greater Boston YMCA Black Achievers Award.
Paul Garrity, V.F., MA, MDiv
Monsignor Paul Garrity holds a master of arts degree in political science from Boston College, a master of divinity degree from St. John’s School of Theology, and a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s College. He has been the pastor of St. Mary’s Parish and St. Patrick’s Parish in Lynn since 1992. In that time, enrollment at St. Mary’s Senior/Junior High School has expanded dramatically, elderly housing has been established, a $10 million campaign has been completed, and St. Mary’s Parish has established ministries for those from Haiti and Congo. In addition to parish responsibilities, Msgr. Garrity is the vicar fornane for Vicariate II of the North Region of the Archdiocese of Boston with pastoral responsibilities of seventeen other parishes. He is a member of the board of governors and of the executive committee of the Catholic Foundation of the Archdiocese of Boston, and a trustee of St. Therese House, Inc., two senior housing complexes on the St. Mary’s Parish campus. In 1998, Pope John Paul II named Msgr. Garrity a prelate of honor with the title very reverend monsignor. The following year, he was named a knight of the Holy Sepulcher. Msgr. Garrity’s experience in higher education includes serving on the board of trustees of Boston State College and on the joint consolidation committee of Boston State and the University of Massachusetts, Boston, serving as vice chair of the Massachusetts Board of Education, and as director of the Catholic Center at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He is the recipient of awards from the Wyoma Lions Club, the Lynn Lions Club, the Boy Scouts of America, the Boys and Girls Club of America, the Lynn Council on Aging, and Greater Lynn Senior Services.
Leila A. (Lee) Hogan, CSJ, PhD
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1961), Sister Lee entered the Sisters of St Joseph of Boston in 1962. She went on to receive her MA in Political Science from Tufts and then a PhD in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland. In addition she completed the HERS Management Institute certificate in 1991-92. She filled many roles at Regis College from 1975-2006, including Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Political Science Department. From 1987 to 2001 she served as the Academic Dean of the College. During that time she was active in various capacities with the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) in the annual Chief Academic Officers Institute; was a founding member of the Association of Colleges of the Sisters of St. Joseph Colleges (ACSSJ) Deans' programs; and served on several NEASC Visiting Teams for the Commission on Institutes of Higher Education (CIHE). Currently, Sister Lee is the Assistant President of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. She serves on 2 other Boards, and is the Treasurer for Region 1 of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR).
Karen Hokanson, SND, EdD
A member of the Sisters of Notre Dame, Karen Hokanson holds a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, a master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, and a bachelor of science in business education and social sciences from Boston University. She is an assistant professor at Emmanuel College. Sister Hokanson served as the general chapter coordinator for the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in Rome from 1999-2002. She has been an administrator or teacher at Aquinas College in Milton, St. Clare High School in Roslindale, St. Gregory High School in Dorchester, and St. Mary’s High School in Lawrence. She is a member of the board of trustees at Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and the board of directors of Notre Dame Education Center in Boston. She has been a board member at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, and a member of the corporation at Notre Dame Academy in Worcester. Sister Hokanson is the recipient of the Outstanding Community Service Award from UMass Lowell; the Outstanding Educator Award, School of Education, Salem State College; the Alumnae Achievement Award from Aquinas College, and she is a member of the Alumni Hall of Fame at Whitman-Hanson High School.
Ellen C. Kearns, JD
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1967), Ellen Kearns received a juris doctor from Boston College School of Law and is a partner in the Boston law firm of Foley & Lardner specializing in labor and employment issues with particular emphasis on wage and hour law. She has been involved in National Labor Relations Board proceedings, negotiations, and arbitrations. She is the editor-in-chief of the BNA Treatise on The Fair Labor Standards and senior editor of its annual supplements. She’s also contributing author to the BNA Treatise titled "Wage and Hour Law, A State-by-State Survey." At Regis, she was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2001, served on the 2010 Committee, was an instructor in the pre-law course, and a member of the legal studies advisory board. Ellen Kearns is the recipient of the Alumnae Achievement Award from Regis College and the William J. Kenealy Alumna of the Year Award from Boston College School of Law.
Judy M. Lauch, MS
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1968) with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and mathematics, Judy Lauch holds a master’s certificate in project management from George Washington University. She is the director of benefits and administration at the Community Builders Inc., a non-profit housing organization. Judy Lauch has worked at IBM and Lotus Development Corporations. For nearly thirty years, she managed the mainframe division at IBM and administered a number of large development projects. She also served as liaison between IBM and Lotus. In addition, Judy volunteered as chief administrative officer at the YMCA in Dutchess County, N.Y., where she is past president of the board of directors. Judy Lauch has co-chaired the Annual Fund and been a fund agent at Regis, has volunteered at St. Joseph’s Parish in Boston, and has served in the Big Sister program.
Christina M. McCann, MAT
A cum laude graduate of Regis College (Class of 1960), Christina McCann did her graduate studies in the master of arts in teaching program at Brown University. She is the former director of philanthropy at the Hospice of the North Shore, where she had been director of development. Christina McCann has more than twenty-five years experience as a senior fundraising professional developing philanthropy programs for health care, academic, and social organizations. She had been a consultant for the Independent Fund Raising Counsel in Danvers and was director of development and community affairs at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem. Early in her career, she worked at Regis as director of Annual Giving and Alumnae Affairs. Christina McCann is a trustee and past advisory board member at St. Mary’s High School in Lynn and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2003. She is a past trustee at St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, past member of the board of directors at North Shore Catholic Charities, and past board member of the New England Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, which presented her its Showcase Award for Distinction in 1994.
Marilyn McGoldrick, CSJ, MEd
A graduate of Regis College (Class of 1965) with a master's degree in secondary education/English from Bridgewater State College, Sister Marilyn McGoldrick is the president of Fontbonne Academy in Milton. S. McGoldrick has served as a teacher, department chair, principal, or president at Fontbonne since 1979. She is a co-founder of the New England Chapter of Women’s Schools Together, chairs the Education Committee of the Xaverian Board of Trustees, is a member of the board of the New England Association of Catholic School Development Officers, and has served on three visiting committees of the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. S. McGoldrick has been the New England regional representative for the National Catholic Education Association and a member of the evaluation team for the Catholic School Department of Education Secondary Principals.
Teresa M. McGonagle, MS
A Regis College graduate with a bachelor’s degree in economics (Class of 1981), Teresa McGonagle has a graduate certificate in management from Radcliffe College, a master of science in finance from Boston College and a master of science in international finance and accounting from the London School of Economics. Currently a consultant for a number of non-profit organizations, she has held several managerial and executive positions in the investment field, including global practice leader at JP Morgan Chase and head of global product for Citigroup, both in New York City, and partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Boston. Prior to that, she was the director of strategic planning/financial planning at Fish and Richardson, and director of strategic planning at John Hancock Financial Services. Teresa McGonagle has served on the board of directors for the Regis College Alumnae Association and Greater Boston Catholic Charities. She is a trustee at Pope John XXIII High School in Everett, former trustee at the Catholic Central High Schools of the Archdiocese of Boston, former lecture faculty at the Boston College Graduate School of Management, co-chair of NICSA International Committee, and member of the board of the National Defined Contribution Council.
Brenda (Bonnie) Coogan Moran, BA
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1958), Bonnie Moran served as the president of Bravo Energy in Hobbs, New Mexico. After graduation from Regis, she participated in the Regis Lay Apostolate, teaching school for Native American children in New Mexico. While serving in the Lay Apostolate, Bonnie met her future husband, a Notre Dame graduate. With him she raised seven children in Hobbs. She has continued to serve the Church both on diocesan and national levels.
Mary L. Murphy, CSJ, MEd
Sister Mary Murphy is the current president and former member of the leadership team of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. She received an associate’s degree in business from Aquinas College, a bachelor’s in business education from Salem State College, and a master of education in counseling psychology from Boston College. Sister Murphy was a guidance counselor at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, principal at Mount St. Joseph Academy in Brighton, vice principal at St. Gregory High School in Dorchester, and teacher/department chair at Newton Catholic High School. She is a director of the Corporation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, the Medaille Corporation, and Bethany Health Care Center, a trustee at North Cambridge Catholic High School and Malden Catholic High School, and has been a member of several visiting committees for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Sister Murphy received the Woman of Excellence Award from Mount St. Joseph Academy and the Alumnae Achievement Award from Aquinas College.
Donna M. Norris, MD
Donna Marie Norris is a graduate of Ohio State University College of Medicine and received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Fisk University. She is a consultant for Massachusetts probate and family courts and an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Norris has appointments at Massachusetts Mental Health/Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Massachusetts Mental Health Center, and Children’s Hospital Medical Center. In addition, she is a mentor and clinical supervisor for residents at Children’s Hospital and Longwood Psychiatric Residency Training Program and a member of the faculty of the Program of Psychiatry and the Law at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center. Dr. Norris was the secretary-treasurer of the American Psychiatric Association, chair of the audit committee of Children’s Hospital Medical Center, a member of the board of directors for the Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund, and a member of the Medical Malpractice Tribunal for the Middlesex County Superior Court. In addition, she was an assistant clinical professor and clinical instructor at Harvard University Medical School, and an adjunct faculty member in the Boston University School of Social Work. Her numerous presentations include a forensic psychiatrists Web site study for the annual meeting of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. Dr. Norris has received the Special Presidential Commendation from the American Psychiatric Association, the Outstanding Psychiatrist Award for the Advancement of the Profession from the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, the Special Lecture Award from the Psychiatric Services Annual Meeting in New Orleans, and the Women of Courage and Conviction Award from the National Council of Negro Women.
Ellen M. O'Connor, MBA
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1967), Ellen O’Connor holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Simmons College Graduate School of Management. She has more than twenty years experience in health care, economic development, and state and municipal government, and is now vice chancellor for administration and finance at UMass Boston. She has been: vice-president for finance at Brown University; chief financial officer for Community Builders, Inc.; vice-president of Washington Business Group on Health in Washington, D.C.; deputy mayor for financial management in the District of Columbia; budget director and comptroller for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; assistant commissioner for administration in the Massachusetts Department of Social Services; deputy commissioner for administration in the Massachusetts Department of Correction; and budget analyst for the Massachusetts Senate Ways and Means Committee. She is a board member of YouthBuild, Communities for People, Inc., and of Massachusetts Association for Mental Health.
Kathleen O'Hare, BA
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1969), Kathleen O’Hare is a Principal in the Enterprise Risk Services Group of Deloitte & Touche LLP. She is responsible for the delivery of risk management services to clients nationally, including technology risks and controls assessments. Kathleen has had a broad range of experience in assessing internal control structures within operations and technology. She also has directed Internal IT Audits and operations, and managed technical and control groups of data processing centers.
Joan Shea, MBA
A graduate of the Newton College of the Sacred Hart, Joan C. Shea holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Chicago. She is the former President of Shea Solutions, Inc. a professional services firm providing strategic and managerial consulting to public and non-profit industries. Joan C. Shea brings to Regis College a wealth of knowledge of financial, management and Human Resources systems having worked in both the private and public sectors throughout her career. Joan C. Shea presently is an adjunct Professor at Suffolk University where she designs and teaches courses on Information Systems as a Management tool and Foundations of Public Financial Management.
Salvatore B. Simeone, MBA
alvatore "Chub" Simeone is the former chief executive officer, president, and chairman of the Simeone Corporation. It was the largest producer of crushed stone aggregates and asphalt pavement in Massachusetts. The company was sold to Aggregate Industries, PLC, in 1989. Chub graduated from Norwich University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He served three and a half years in the Army during World War Two winning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He captained and coached the Army hockey team while stationed in Austria. Chub graduated from Babson College in the accelerated business program. He received the distinguished Alumnus Award from Norwich University and is a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame for football, hockey, and baseball. Chub served on the boards of directors of the National Crushed Stone Association; the National Asphalt Pavement Association; the Massachusetts Crushed Stone Association (chairman); the Construction Industry of Massachusetts (chairman); Hancock Bank and Trust Company; Bank New England South; University Club of Boston; Charles River Country Club; and Sailfish Point Country Club. He now is the managing partner of Simeone Associates, a real estate developer. Chub and his wife, Mary Carr Simeone, a member of the Regis Class of 1945, donated the funding to build the college’s state-of-the-art Fitness Center.
Lorraine M. Tegan, MST
A Regis College graduate (Class of 1963) with a bachelor’s degree in history and education, Lorraine Tegan holds a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of New Hampshire. She is the founder and owner of Communication Technology Services in Marlboro. Lorraine Tegan was a mathematics teacher at Oyster River High School in Durham, N.H., and director of mathematics at Shrewsbury (Massachusetts) High School. She is a tutor and mentor for Generations, Inc., and Boston Partners in Education, a member and organizer for the Nantucket chapter of Voice of the Faithful, a committee member of the American Cancer Society, co-chair of the Susan G. Komen "Rally for a Cure" golf tournaments, and a pace setter in Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk.
Donato Tramuto
Donato J. Tramuto, CEO and Vice Chairman of Physicians Interactive, has more than 28 years of healthcare experience in both the product and service segments. He was previously Chief Executive Officer of i3, a global pharmaceutical services company that is part of Ingenix (a UnitedHealth Group Company), overseeing the Clinical Research, Pharmaceutical Data, Analytics, Outcomes, EPI/Safety, Health Education, and Strategic Consulting business units. Prior to joining Ingenix, Mr. Tramuto was one of the founders of Protocare, Inc., a large provider of drug development services, where he served as Chief Executive and President of the Protocare Sciences Division and Corporate Officer of Protocare from 1998 to 2003. Prior to co-founding Protocare, Mr. Tramuto was Corporate Vice President of Marketing/Healthcare at Caremark, where he helped create the company's first disease management program for HIV/AIDS. Mr. Tramuto is the Chairman and founder of the Donato J. Tramuto Foundation, a non-profit organization that he founded in 2001 to help disadvantaged youth reach their educational goals. He also serves on the Duke University Fuqua Health Care Advisory Board. He received his Bachelor of Art degree in Philosophy/Psychology from Wadham’s Hall Seminary College in Ogdensburg, NY and Master degree from the University of Buffalo. In August of 2005, Mr. Tramuto was selected by PharmaVoice as one of the "Top 100 Most Inspirational Healthcare Leaders In the Life Sciences Industry."
Nancy Valentine, PhD, RN
Nancy Valentine has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Rutgers University College of Nursing, a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing and nursing administration from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in public health services administration from Harvard University’s School of Public Health, and a doctorate in economics and health policy from Brandeis University’s Heller School of Social Policy and Management. She is the senior vice president and chief nursing officer for Main Line Health. She was first vice president, National Nursing Executive, Medical Strategy and Health Policy for CIGNA Healthcare. She has worked in Washington, D.C., as assistant chief medical director for Nursing Programs at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and as special assistant to the secretary and advisor to the under secretary for Health. A member of the Harvard Medical School faculty, Dr. Valentine has held clinical, educational and administrative positions at McLean Hospital and Boston City Hospital. She is past president of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, past treasurer of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Foundation and the American College of Mental Health Administrators, president of the of Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research, and a member of the Council of Nursing Executives of the National League for nursing. She was elected to the Fellowship of the American Academy of Nursing and to the National Academies of Practice, Nursing Academy.
Richard W. Young, PhD (Emeritus)
Richard Young holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Dartmouth College and a master’s and doctorate from Columbia University. During a 20-year career at Polaroid Corporation, he served in several executive positions, including senior vice president for research and development. He has been president of Houghton-Mifflin Company; chairman and CEO of Mentor Ophthalmics, Inc.; and director of Bay State Milling Company, of Quincy, Mentor Corporation, of Santa Barbara, California, and Instron Corporation of Canton. He holds more than fifty patents of photographic and pharmaceutical products, and is the inventor of Neptazane, the first drug designed for treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Young has been a trustee of Trinitas Foundation; the International Chamber of Commerce; the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole; and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He chaired the Advisory Council of the International Business Center of New England and has been a member of the Presidential Commission on Executive, Legislative and Judicial Salaries and the Northeastern University Corporation. Dr. Young became affiliated with Regis College in 1968, became a Trustee in 1972, and has served as chair of the Board.
