History

On November 16, 1991, Regis College and Emmanuel College nursing faculty met to discuss feasibility of the at-large nursing honor society and an at-large Nursing Honor Society Joint Steering Committee was established. The Steering Committee was led by Dr. Antoinette Hays, president, and Billie Swisher, president-elect of the Regis Honor Society, and Jane Kelly and Ann Zaia representing Emmanuel College.

On February 2, 1993, representatives from both Regis College and Emmanuel College agreed upon the mutual benefits of an at-large honor society. In preparation for development of the at-large honor society, Dr. Antoinette Hays, Dr. Amy Anderson, and representatives from Emmanuel College made plans to meet with Carla Davis, a representative from Sigma Theta Tau, who is an expert in at-large honor societies.

In the fall of 1994, Billie Swisher became the new president and thus the motivating force behind the efforts to attain chapterhood. Pi Epsilon-at-Large was officially chartered on May 27, 1998.
