Excellent academic programs and career readiness are the foundation for a bright and successful future. When considering your educational options, there are key considerations to ensure you are prepared to thrive in your chosen field and rise to your full potential.
Excellent academic programs and career readiness are the foundation for a bright and successful future. Through the dedicated support of our Career and Internship Center, students are provided opportunities to explore their passions, develop professional skills, and gain invaluable real-world experience. This is one of the many ways students ‘Rise at Regis.’
From personalized career counseling such as resume reviews and interview preparation to robust internship opportunities with leading organizations in Greater Boston, Regis provides students with the tools and resources needed to bridge the gap between the classroom and the workforce. Our mission is to ensure every student leaves Regis with a degree, and a clear path to achieving their career goals.
All Regis students are required to participate in at least one internship or, for nurses, a clinical. This requirement ensures that graduates have relevant and real-world experience to enhance their resume and career prospects. Many Regis students participate in more than one internship to gain more valuable experience and an advantage in their job search. Our office helps connect students to internships throughout Greater Boston and across the country at companies such as the Boston Red Sox, General Dynamics, Kraft Sports & Entertainment, Moderna, and more.
Go ‘beyond the classroom’ to see how Regis students thrive in their internships.
One of Regis’ greatest advantages for students is our alumni network – a group of individuals who want to help Regis students and graduates succeed! The university often welcomes alumni back to campus to meet with students and share with them the latest industry trends or to make connections for potential careers and internships. Jamie Merisotis writing in Forbes shares, “By supplementing the work of academic and professional advisors, alums can help students overcome barriers to completion, connect classroom learning to the real world, offer career and other advice or just a friendly ear.”
Among the many services offered by the university’s Center for Internships and Career Development is career coaching. Many students arrive at Regis with a specific major in mind, then change their major following a conversation with our staff. Our office and academic advising collaborate to ensure students are aware of their options and opportunities. We meet with students one-on-one to help them discover their passions and interests and which Regis programs can position students to succeed in those fields. It’s important to remember that most students can easily change their major in their first or sophomore years, depending on their major.
But remember, just because you chose a particular major does not mean you are locked into a particular field for the rest of your life. Writing in Psychology Today, Frank T. McAndrew Ph.D. shares that “Future employers are much more interested in the skills you possess than in the major you pursued.” This includes your writing and analytic skills or the ability to code or speak another language.
When it comes to helping students polish up their resumes or prepare for interviews, it’s all hands on deck at Regis. Last year, members of our leadership team and staff participated in a one-stop event for students to have a professional LinkedIn photo taken, create a professional LinkedIn page, suggest edits to students’ resumes, participate in mock interviews, and much more. We often share that each member of the Regis community is committed to students’ success, we mean it! This career preparation event was critical to supporting members of the Class of 2024 in their career pursuits.
“The Career and Internship Center at Regis College provides students with critical support as we research internships and prepare for the career search,” said Thomas Genzale Jr. ‘25, a Nursing major. “I feel incredibly prepared to embark on my journey in medicine thanks to Regis’ opportunities. The Career Center helped me gain insight into a professional life.”
Finally, we offer several professional workshops throughout the year to make sure that careers and internships remain top of mind for students. The workshops provide practical tools for students to navigate their career journeys with confidence. Covering topics like interview preparation, LinkedIn optimization, and salary negotiation, these workshops equip participants with the skills needed to achieve their professional goals.
Again, just about any college or university can share knowledge with their students. But Regis takes it one step further by supporting students from the first day they arrive on campus until graduation with their internship and career searches. It’s one of the many Regis is different than other colleges. Rise at Regis.
