Regis, a leading Catholic university in Greater Boston, will kick off the 2017 academic year on Sunday with 275 first-year students arriving on campus. The most popular majors include nursing, pre-med, business, criminal justice, and diagnostic medical sonography. Graduate programs begin Tuesday with 862 students taking part in our on-campus programs and 250 students registered in our growing online offerings.
New School of Business and Communication
The university officially opens its new School of Business and Communication this fall.
The school offers a bachelor of arts in communication, a bachelor of arts in global business management, and a master of science in organizational and professional communication. Undergraduate students have the option to complete an undergraduate and graduate degree in communication in five years. In addition to the university-wide study abroad programs, students in the global business management have the opportunity to spend a semester studying in Cyprus or Italy.
“Given the university’s current academic programs, our volume of students and our faculty expertise in the areas of business and communication, this school is a natural fit for Regis,” said President Antoinette Hays, PhD, RN. “This new school will enhance the student experience with expanded, real-world experiences, putting them in the best position possible to enter the workforce in a very competitive marketplace.”
The university will launch the school with a panel discussion titled “DeHate the Debate: Seeking a Common Ground to Disagree Without Disrespect” on September 11. Moderated by WCVB’s Janet Wu, participants include Newton Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Setti Warren, Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy, former Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tom O’Neill III, former CNN White House correspondent Dan Lothian and Regional Director of News and Operations GateHouse Media West Unit Anne Brennan. Visiting Scholar
Regis is proud to welcome Nour Al Asaad, a fellow from Syria. Al Asaad joins Regis as a part of the International Research and Exchanges Program (IREX) Community Solutions Project. A college instructor in her home country, Al Asaad will conduct research and assist teaching and developing a seminar on human rights and public health issues in Syria.
New Conference, New Rivalries
Regis’ new Dean of Athletics Pam Roecker is leading the university’s 18 athletic teams into a new conference, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
“This is the most dynamic, exciting, and vibrant time in the university’s history and I am thrilled to be leading this program into its next chapter,” said Roecker.
New Events
Regis continues to partner with organizations that bring exciting programing to campus. An alliance with Medical Development Group brings monthly forums to the Regis Fine Arts Center Casey theatre. The unique partnership links Regis’ award-winning science programs with MDG’s community of 7,000 individuals in the medical technology field.
On September 13, MDG will host Brain and Spinal Cord Injury - Current Status and Future Hope. This world-class event will announce breakthroughs in spinal cord repair that have not been disclosed previously and will highlight the latest research on concussion prevention and treatment. The public is invited to attend and can register online.
New Academic Programs
The School of Heath Sciences is enhancing its offerings with therapeutic recreation and sports management and the School of Arts and Sciences now offers majors in cybersecurity and environmental sustainability. In addition, a satellite campus in Lawrence offers bachelor completion in nursing and public health. The graduate population is expected to double during 2018 due to the success of Regis College Online program which currently offers master’s degrees in nursing, health administration, and counseling, as well as the doctor of nursing practice.

Regis Fest 2017
On September 29, the university will host a business networking conference, “Imagine, Ignite, Inspire” featuring the founders of Wicked Good Cupcakes, Tracey Noonan and Dani Vilagie, who will speak about their extraordinary success after being featured on ABC’s Shark Tank. Breakout sessions will focus on how to network and how to maximize LinkedIn. This event coincides with Regis Fest, the annual family weekend which hosts eight athletic games and fun, family activities on Saturday, September 30. These events are open to the public. Let It Shine Gala
The second annual Regis Let it Shine Gala will take place on October 24, 2017, at the Park Plaza in Boston. The Shining Example Award will be presented to Marshall Sloane, Founder and Chairman of Century Bank. The inaugural gala last year raised $1 million to support student scholarships.
“Regis opens doors and helps its students learn to become global citizens focused on compassion and academic excellence,” said John Tegan, chair of the Board of Trustees. “Funds raised at the Gala will go directly to support student scholarships.”
